Impressive for its richness and range of flavors, with dark berry, red and black licorice, cedar, loamy earth and fresh tobacco. Firms with ripe, chewy tannins and a persistent finish. Drink now through 2023.—J.L.

Stagecoach Vineyard, Napa Valley, 14.8% alcohol, $90. 215 cs. 92CS|08MB
Has a subtle nose of long black cherry notes with seamless plum, blueberry with hints of red currant brightness, licorice and herbs. The palate entry is seamless, polished and brilliant with great poise and a velvet-like texture. This is one of the biggest surprises of the entire issue! A real sleeper. Drink 2011 – 2022. - DW
