Tasting Notes
This Syrah has traded ultra-ripe fruit flavors for a balanced, acid-forward structure. Expect to find plenty of red and black fruit flavors; black plum, fruit leather, muddled cherry skins. The combination of just-ripe-enough fruit and bright acidity makes for an exciting wine on the palate. The real star of this wine, however, is its earthy and umami character. Oyster mushrooms, hoisin sauce, graphite, tilled soil. All of this accented by black pepper and a hint of violets. Oak flavors peak their head out in the form of tootsie roll and chalky milk chocolate just at the end. The wine finishes with persistent, high toned black fruit and earthy spice. Expect this to pair well with Persian foods, such as koobideh, borani, and zereshk polo.

Sweet oak and ripe berries jump to the fore in the nose here and then are gradually joined by distinctly peppery spice that brings this one into fine varietal focus. On the palate, the wine is fleshy, full and well-balanced with excellent Syrah definition, but it runs into a bit of late-arriving heat and enough drying tannins to drop off just a bit at the finish. It has all of the right pieces in all of the right places to develop quite nicely, but do lay it away for at least three or four more years - a half-dozen would probably be even better - to find the finishing polish that eludes it just now. - Connoisseur's Guide to California Wine
